HOME OF THE "STACKABLE" CRAB TRAP AND COMMERCIAL GRADE CRAB TRAP SUPPLIES

Eel Pots/Green Crab Traps

Captain Bruce’s Eel pots are made to last.  Eel pots are 30" L x 11" W x 6" H. The eel pot wire is made from 1/2” x 1/2” American-made Riverdale wire and is vinyl-coated for years of use. These eel pots also have a galvanized top wire frame to make the eel pot more rigid. Just compare the weight of these eels pots (7 1/4 lbs) to other eel pots on the market and you will see the difference. The eel funnel entrances are patented and are easily replaceable if needed. Each eel pot is equipped with a flip top bait tray for easy baiting. Quality costs money! ORDER BELOW.

Green Crab Traps: Many customers have converted my eel pots into green crab traps by taking a pair of scissors and cutting off the tips of the funnels to the diameter wanted for catching green crabs   ORDER BELOW.

Maryland Law allows Recreational Crabbers 10 eel pots to catch your own bait, so why not catch some eels!  They make great Crabbing bait!  Catching eel is easy as 1, 2, 3:

  1. Bait the eel pot with dead blue crab (smash it up a little) or any other bait you use for crabbing and let the eel tell you which bait they prefer.
  2. The eel pots can be rigged with a single float and a line connected to the eel pot or a float with a main line that has individual drops connected to all 10 pots.
  3. Let the eel pots soak for about 2 days and then empty your pots and rebait them.

Catching Eels

How to Make Salted Eel

Use livestock feed salt. Go to your local Southern States or other farm supply company. Runs around $6-$8 for a 60 lb bag.  Make a brine by adding salt to water until it floats a potato in the brine.  When the potato floats in the brine, put the live eels in the brine and let them stay there for a few hours. They will eventually die, get salted on the inside, as well as the outside, and the brine will de-slime them. After a couple of hours, remove the eels from the brine and put in air tight bag or container with a layer of salt, layer of eels, salt, eels. Brine is re-useable.
